Imagine your subscriber list growing by leaps and bounds
as you implement list building strategies and techniques
that we'll be sharing in upcoming issues of this newsletter.
Your list grows to 2,000, 5,000, 15,000, 50,000...
"The money's in the list." Marketing experts will tell
this over and over again. In fact, I received a newsletter
just today that included that exact phrase.
Why is everyone emphasizing this? Because it's true.
If the money's in the list, where is it and how do you
"monetize your list"?
The answer is in sending out offers to your subscribers
that they'll most likely be interested in buying. And to
effectively target the interests of your readers, it's
important to know what motivated them to sign up for your
newsletter in the first place.
You'll want to know...
~ Where did this subscriber come from when they got on my
mailing list?
* my website?
* if you have multiple sites, which one?
* an ezine directory?
* a coregistration list, and what was the ad?
* a joint venture, and what was it promoting?
~ What was the topic matter that drew their attention?
~ Has this person ever purchased anything from me, and what
was it?
The list of questions could certainly go on, but the key objective
in knowing the answers to these questions is your ability
to offer products or services that have a high likelihood to
trigger a buying response.
Segregate your list as you build it so that, as an
example, you could know that list #1 signed up from your website, the
focus of that site is _______, and then target related offers.
You're probably asking yourself... "How do I do this when
I'm involved in a dozen different list building activities?"
One strategy that you can use is to set up separate
"welcome" autoresponders for each subscription source that
you're using, and maintain a database of the autoresponder
names and locations. This will help you keep track of where
your subscribers are coming from.
Another option that will be available through quality
autoresponder services is the ability to use tracking codes
either in your web form or tagged onto a your subscribe
"mailto" addresses. If you're using tracking codes, you'll
be able to set up filters from within your autoresponder's
control panel area and quickly view sub-lists of subscribers.
